Placement Test information
Foreign Language:
All students in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences who wish to meet their foreign language breadth requirement with the same language taken in high school must take a placement examination.
The placement exam is a proficiency-oriented exam designed to place the student in the most appropriate course. The exam does not yield unit credit; it determines whether the foreign language requirement has been met, and if not, it determines in which course a student should enroll.
Placement test dates and registration information are available at http://placementtest.ucr.edu/. You must register for an exam through this website.
Math:
All students wishing to take math at UCR are required to take the appropriate math placement test. If you have never had any Trigonometry, Exponentials, or Logarithms, it is recommended that you take the MATH ANALYSIS TEST. If the next class that you would have taken in high school would have been calculus or you have already taken calculus (but did not recieve a 3 or higher on the Calculus Advanced Placement exam), we recommend that you take the PRE-CALCULUS TEST.
EXEMPTIONS
There are only 2 things that will exempt a student from having to take the Math placement test.
1) Having taken the Calculus AB or Calculus BC Advanced Placement exam and receiving a score of 3,4 or 5. OR
2) Transfer credit at the level of Pre-Calculus or above from another institution with a grade of C or above.
